My electric vehicle won't charge

My electric vehicle won't charge

Here's a quick checklist to run through:
  1. Does the EVSE (JuiceBox or JuiceCord) have the power on?  Check that for a wall unit that the isolation switch is in the on position.  For the JuiceCord, that the power light is on.
  2. Is there a beeping noise coming from the unit.  If there is, go to Error Codes? Try turning the power off and on again.  If more that three trips are experienced in quick succession the JuiceBox / JuiceCord will lock itself out for 15 minutes.  Cycling the power will not fix this - you have to be patient.  This is a safety feature.
  3. Check that the EV does not have time of use set, or has a delay timer active.   The Nissan LEAF / eNV200 uses these, and if the car menu is in Kanji this is very difficult to find the settings.  The VW eGolf has a delay feature too.  See the EV user manual to see how to over-ride or reset this feature.
  4. Inspect the supply cable to the car.  If it is a Type 1 (the one with the latch), inspect the latch (where it plugs into the EV). If it has been dropped there will be a "ding" in the end and the microswitch will not operate in the middle of its range.  The latch may be bent, or the pivot pin bent.  This will require a service. Gently lifting the latch up while plugged into the EV (the "padlock hole" may initiate charging. If the cable is damages DO NOT ISE IT, and have it repaired.
  5. Consult your EV manual for a description of any warning lights or tones, and check the dashboard display
  6. Is your charge set to a maximum (80% is common for the LEAF) and does the state of charge exceed this?
  7. Is the EV in climate control (pre-heat mode)? This can take all the available power or have priority over charging. Turn it off.
  8. Is time of use set on the Dashboard - check the settings or over-ride the setting
  9. Try another vehicle.
  10. If all else fails, send an email to support@juicepoint.zohodesk.com.
